From its inception in 1945 near Goli Ground to the Sikkim Mining Corporation campus, PM SHRI GSSS Rangpo has mirrored the educational aspirations of East Sikkim across generations.
1945: The Genesis as Bazar Primary School
Established in 1945 as Bazar Primary School, PM Shri GSSS Rangpo boasts a rich history deeply rooted in community service. Originally situated in the Lower Bazar area near Goli Ground, the school was founded to bring accessible, foundational literacy to the children of traders, workers, and local families in the bustling trade town of Rangpo.
1961 – 1976: The Chanatar & SMC Campuses
With growing enrollment, the school relocated to Chanatar, Rangpo, in 1961. By 1976, it attained a momentous upgrade to Government Secondary School Rangpo SMC and shifted to the Sikkim Mining Corporation area. To maintain seamless educational continuity, primary education continued at Chanatar for grades I–V, while secondary classes VI–X flourished at the new SMC campus.
2013 – 2023: Senior Secondary & PM SHRI Exemplar
In 2013, the school transitioned to a full-fledged Senior Secondary School offering Science, Commerce, and Arts streams. In 2023, the school reached a historic national milestone by being selected as one of the elite PM SHRI Schools in Sikkim, leading to its official renaming as PM SHRI Government Senior Secondary School Rangpo under the visionary framework of NEP 2020.
